Brush Maker Tool (Extension for Aseprite)
A downloadable tool
Brush Maker Tool for Aseprite is a powerful in-canvas extension that lets you design, preview, and export custom pixel brushes without ever leaving Aseprite’s interface. Here’s what it does—and how to make the most of every feature:
1. Grid Settings
-
Shape Selector
Choose from five built-in brush shapes—Square, Circle, Diamond, Triangle, or Hexagon. This mask defines which cells of your grid are editable: click “Circle,” for instance, to confine your drawing to a round outline, or “Hexagon” to build honeycomb-style brushes. -
Grid Size Slider
Adjust the resolution of your brush canvas from 1×1 up to 20×20 cells. Smaller grids make broad strokes; larger grids give you fine detail. The grid redraws instantly when you change this value, and any out-of-shape cells are automatically cleared.
2. Canvas Tools
-
Draw Mode
Paint individual cells with your current color. Use click-and-drag to quickly sketch shapes or fill patterns. -
Erase Mode
Click or drag to clear cells back to transparent. Great for fine-tuning edges. -
Bucket Fill
Flood-fill any contiguous, shape-masked area with a single click. It respects your current brush shape, so you can fill a circular region without spilling into corners. -
Undo
Hit “Undo” to step back through your last tweaks. Redo
Hit “Redo” to step back through your Undo's
-
Jumble
Shuffle the existing cell colors around within your brush’s shape boundary. Ideal for generating interesting textures or “noisy” brushes with a single click.
3. Color & Selection Size
-
Color Picker
Choose your paint color using an integrated RGBA picker. Your selection updates the draw, bucket-fill, and preview overlay in real time. -
Brush Size Entry
Specify how many cells wide your draw/erase tool should act on each click or drag—anywhere from 1×1 up to 10×10. Perfect for building single-pixel accents or broad block brushes.
5. Saving & Exporting
- Exporting
Export Brush to be used later
- Import
Import your exported brushes
-
Save Brush
Once you’re happy with your design, hit “Save Brush” and the extension automatically converts your grid into a new Aseprite brush. It appears in the Brush palette ready for immediate painting. -
Close
Exit the dialog at any time—you’ll be prompted to save if you’ve made unsaved edits, ensuring you never lose a carefully crafted pattern.
